how to find your personal style
Share
hi & welcome to my first blog post!
so much of my brand is inspired by nolstagia and i remember reading so many fashion blogs as a child, i thought this would be the perfect thing to make mtf more authentic & interactive.
i made a video about this on my tiktok page, but todays blog is all about finding your personal style. your personal style is something coveted when it comes to fashion-- its hard to find because its something thats completley you. it cant be copied or imitated, and thats why finding it feels like striking gold.
here are my 5 tips to help you find yours!
- a personal style cant be labeled.
theres around 8bill people in this wolrd and every single one of them has their own unique style. if you've been searching for your own styles under the guise of aesthetics like streetwear, boho, preppy, etc., you have to let that go. understand that there will be no one word to describe your personal style, the same way your personality can't be described in only one word. your style will most likely be made up of a bunch of different vibes and aesthetics in a way that feels true to you.
2. pay attention to the patterns.
if there is a style aesthetic or aesthetics that you love and want to make your own, pay attention to the common themes or items that are used. for example, i always loved streetwear and something that stood out to be was pairing a super baggy item with a tight one. it seems obvious, but once i realized that i liked how this pairing looked, i was able to match pieces that weren't necessarily a streetwear vibe but tight and baggy and make outfits that i really liked. so, find patterns in the outfits that speak out to you-- is it colors, size, shape, fabric, etc? once you find your patterns, try and incorpate that into your daily outfits.
3) find fashion rolemodels
im sure you might have already done this, but try to find people whos styles you want to emmulate! it can be friends, influencers, celebrities, anyone really. similar to step 2, try to pinpoint what exactly stands out to you about their style- is it the vibe, the era, the way they take their pivtures, their accessories? if you have multiple rolemodels try to see what overlaps and also what differs.
4) THRIFT.
this is my most important tip. thrifting changed my life when it came to finding my style. i found that shopping at stores made it hard to find authentcity brcause the clothes were curatedf and modeled in a way to be sold. i ended up always buying items that i thought looked cute and never ened up wearing them. when i started thrifting, i had to really decide for myself what i thought was valuable and what wasn't. everytime i thrifted, i got better and better at knowing when something was going to be cute or a staple in my closet. its a excercise! i also feel like its less of a loss if you buy something you end up not liking, since thrifting clothes is way cheaper then buying retail.
5) dont be afraid to experiment!
to find your own unique style, you're going to have to do a lot of experimenting and that's normal. you might wear some things you love, and some things you hate and cringe at, but everytime you try something new, you are one step closer to being your fully fashionable authentic self. remember to never to compare yourself to others, this is a solo journey!
good luck to all!!
